چکیده

By means of an intracellular capillary electrode the effects of barium chloride on the resting and action potentials of ventricular fibers of the frog were recorded in hearts with circulation intact and hearts isolated and perfused. The changes were essentially similar in both preparations. The major change observed was a statistically significant (p < 0.01) increase in duration of the action potential. Changes were also observed in the magnitude of the resting andaction potential, in the rateof depolarization, and in rhythm, but these did not occur invariably. By a series of exclusion experiments it was demonstrated that barium lias a direct effect on the ventricular fibers of the frog's heart.

Barium-induced automaticity in right ventricular muscle in the dog.

Pacemaker activity was induced in trabecular muscle fibers of canine hearts using oxygenated Tyrode solution with added barium chloride. Following exposure to barium (0.2 to 5 HIM) the resting potential decreased toward zero from 10 to 60%, depending on the concentration. Simultaneously, the duration of the action potential increased and early diastolic hyperpolarization appeared with diastolic...

Effects of ionic parameters on behavior of a skeletal muscle fiber model

All living cells have a membrane which separates inside the cell from it's outside. There is a potential difference between inside and outside of the cell. This potential difference will change during an action potential. It is quite common to peruse action potentials of skeletal muscle fibers with the Hodgkin-Huxley model. Since Hodgkin and Huxley summarized some controlling currents like inwa...

Effect of 2,4 dinitrophenol on electrical activity in Purkinje and ventricular muscle fibers of hog heart.

• Fn a recent study, it was observed that 2,4. dinitrophenol, in concentrations of 2 to 5 X 10~ M, produced a shortened action potential duration and a decrease in the amplitude of the action potential in the atrial fiber of the isolated mouse heart and in the ventricular fibers of the intact and isolated perfused frog heart. The membrane resting potential was unchanged even during the period o...

The Effect of Low Ionic Strength Extracellular Solutions on the Resting Potential in Skeletal Muscle Fibers

Intracellular measurements of the resting potential were made in fibers of the frog sartorius muscle in solutions of varying salt composition and concentration to determine the effects of low ionic strength extracellular solutions on the resting potential. Changes in the glass microelectrode tip potential in low ionic strength solutions were minimized by adding ThCl(4) to the extracellular solu...

Effects of low and high concentrations of potassium on the simultaneously recorded Purkinje and ventricular action potentials of the perfused pig moderator band.

The use of the perfused pig moderator band has allowed us to study the rapid simultaneous changes in Purkinje and ventricular action potentials induced by perfusing solutions of high (10 to 12 HIM) and low (0.6 to 0.8 HIM) K concentrations. High K shortened the plateau more in Purkinje fibers than in ventricular fibers and decreased the difference between the action potential durations of the t...
